1st year of mbbs

I am currently a 2nd year medical student (MBBS) who has a strong passion for medicine and one who aspires to be a general surgeon. I created this blog because I'm sure I'd want to look back one day - once i've become a surgeon, oh yes, I will! - and retrospect on the journey (while sipping coffee in a cozy armchair, if you will )  that lies ahead of me.
And also because some excited newbees entering medicine would want to know how the life as a medical student (especially in India) is .......well, at least I was.

My first year in medicine has taught me lot of things namely:
1) Professors in this field are a whole new breed entirely . I wouldn't try to be friendly with them if I were you. You see I came from a college where teacher and students were literally friends but these guys ...well let's just say I didn't have a nice time with them. ADVICE: speak when you are spoken to and nothing more , nothing less period!

 2) & of course you'll have to study more but I don't want to scare you guys with something along the lines of  "you'll be sleeping with books" and stuff like that. Seriously, anyone with sincere passion for the subject along with a few extra hours of study can excel and of course easily pass. Trust me, I've seen some of my own friends having a terrible nervous breakdown at the last minute.

3) Most horrifying phase is MOOD SWINGS, especially if you're being an hostlelite for the first time.

4) Being yourself is extremely difficult. We are all different in every whichway. Sometimes others may not accept you because of these differences. Making friends becomes extremely difficult in such a scenario and you may even end up failing. But to change oneself, mold oneself to others liking is same as losing oneself. We are who we are and stick by your side. As for friends, don't worry they'll become a part of your life if they are meant to be.

5) There will definitely come many times when you'll question yourself  'why am I doing this ?' Keep the answer ready now and it better be a good one 'cause trust me that answer will save you and push you forward.

That's it for now. Keep signing in and oh yes,  WELCOME ABOARD FIRST YEARS and best of luck. SAYONARA!!
